Is the Osaka Amazing Pass Worth It in 2026? Honest Math for a 1-Day and 2-Day Pass
The Osaka Amazing Pass costs ¥3,500 for one day or ¥5,000 for two, and gets you into 40+ attractions plus unlimited transport. It is excellent value for one specific kind of day and a waste for everyone else. Here is how to tell which you are.

Short version: The 1-day Osaka Amazing Pass (¥3,500) pays for itself the moment you do Osaka Castle main tower + Umeda Sky Building + the Tombori river cruise in one day, and that is a very normal first-timer day. Add the transport you would have paid for anyway and you are ¥1,500 to ¥3,000 ahead. The 2-day pass (¥5,000) only wins if you have a second full day of ticketed sights in Osaka, which most people do not, because day two is usually Kyoto or Nara. If your Osaka plan is Dotonbori, street food, Shinsekai and shopping, skip it entirely.
What it is and what it costs
| Pass | Price (adult and child, same price) | Validity |
|---|---|---|
| 1-Day | ¥3,500 | One calendar day (not 24 hours) |
| 2-Day | ¥5,000 | Two consecutive calendar days |
Since mid-2024 the pass is digital only: you buy online, receive a QR code, and scan it at station gates and attraction entrances. The physical card is gone. Sold on the official site, Klook and KKday; third-party platforms are sometimes a little cheaper.
Because it runs by calendar day, start early. A pass activated at 2pm is already half wasted.
What you get
Transport - Osaka Metro (all lines), New Tram, Osaka City Bus - Private railways within Osaka city zones: Hankyu, Hanshin, Keihan, Kintetsu, Nankai - Not JR. So no JR Loop Line, no Haruka, no JR to Kyoto or Himeji. (Osaka Metro gets you nearly everywhere a tourist goes anyway.)
Free entry to 40+ attractions. The ones that matter for most visitors, with their standalone prices:
| Attraction | Normal price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Osaka Castle Main Tower | ¥1,200 | The big one. Expect a queue after 10am |
| Umeda Sky Building Floating Garden | ¥2,000 | Free only if you enter before 3pm; 20% off after |
| Tombori River Cruise | ¥1,500 | 20-minute Dotonbori canal loop |
| HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel | ¥600 | Umeda, next to Sky Building |
| Tsutenkaku Tower | ¥1,200 | Shinsekai; the Tower Slider is free on weekdays only |
| Tempozan Giant Ferris Wheel | ¥900 | Osaka Bay, next to the aquarium |
| Santa Maria Bay Cruise | ¥1,800 | Day cruise from Tempozan |
| Osaka Museum of Housing and Living | ¥600 | Walk-through Edo-period street, underrated |
| Osaka Castle Nishinomaru Garden | ¥200 | |
| Natural hot spring Naniwa no Yu | ¥1,000 | A real sento, good end to the day |
| Abeno Harukas 300 observatory | ¥2,000 | Discount only, not free |
Not included at all: Kaiyukan Aquarium, Universal Studios Japan, teamLab Botanical Garden. Those are separate tickets.
The math: a realistic first-timer day
Morning: Osaka Castle main tower (¥1,200). Metro from Namba (¥240). Lunch: Kuromon Market or Dotonbori, on your own yen. Afternoon: Metro to Umeda (¥240), Umeda Sky Building before 3pm (¥2,000), HEP FIVE wheel (¥600). Evening: Metro back to Namba (¥240), Tombori River Cruise at dusk (¥1,500).
| Without pass | With 1-day pass | |
|---|---|---|
| Attractions | ¥5,300 | ¥0 |
| Transport | ¥720 | ¥0 |
| Total | ¥6,020 | ¥3,500 |
Saving: ¥2,520 per person. For a couple, ¥5,000 saved in a day. That is the pass working as intended.
Swap Umeda for Shinsekai (Tsutenkaku ¥1,200, Tempozan wheel ¥900 and the Santa Maria cruise ¥1,800 if you head to the bay) and the numbers come out similar.
When it is NOT worth it
- Your Osaka day is food and streets. Dotonbori, Shinsekai kushikatsu, Kuromon, Amerikamura, Den Den Town, Shinsaibashi shopping. None of it is ticketed. You would pay ¥3,500 to save ¥700 in subway fares.
- You are going to USJ. That is a full day and it is not covered. Do not buy a pass for the same day.
- You arrive in Osaka mid-afternoon. The castle closes at 5pm and Umeda’s free window ends at 3pm. Save the pass for a full day.
- You mainly want Kyoto and Nara. Neither is covered. See Do You Need a JR Pass for Osaka, Kyoto and Nara? for what to buy instead.
- It is raining hard. Three of the best inclusions (Sky Building, river cruise, Ferris wheels) are weather-dependent. Check the forecast before you commit the pass to a date.
1-Day vs 2-Day
The 2-day pass is ¥5,000, so the second day costs you an extra ¥1,500. To justify it you need about ¥1,500 of ticketed attractions plus some transport on day two inside Osaka. Realistic second days:
- Osaka Bay day: Tempozan wheel (¥900) + Santa Maria cruise (¥1,800) + Metro (¥500). Worth it. (Kaiyukan aquarium is extra.)
- Shinsekai + Tennoji day: Tsutenkaku (¥1,200) + Shitennoji garden + Museum of Housing and Living (¥600) + Metro. Worth it.
- Kyoto or Nara day: Not covered. Buy the 1-day.
Most first-timers spend only one full day on Osaka’s ticketed sights, so the 1-day is the usual right answer. Buy the 2-day only if you have a specific second Osaka day planned.
Osaka Amazing Pass vs Osaka e-Pass
The Osaka e-Pass (¥2,400 for 1 day, ¥3,000 for 2 days) is a cheaper cousin: similar attraction list, no transport included, and a few of the headline sights (notably Osaka Castle main tower) are handled differently depending on the year. If you will mostly walk and only want two or three paid sights, the e-Pass can win by a few hundred yen. For the classic castle + Umeda + cruise day with subway hops between them, the Amazing Pass comes out ahead. Check both inclusion lists for your travel dates; they change each April.
Practical tips
- Reserve the Tombori cruise. Pass holders can book a time slot online; evening slots sell out on weekends.
- Umeda Sky Building before 3pm. Easy to forget. Do it after lunch, not at sunset.
- Osaka Castle: go at opening (9am) or after 3:30pm. The 10am–2pm queue for the elevator can be 40 minutes.
- Keep your phone charged. The QR code is your ticket and your train pass. Carry a power bank.
- Pass covers Metro, not JR. If your hotel is on the JR Loop Line (e.g. near Osaka Station’s JR side), you may still pay a few fares.
- Children pay full price. Unusual for Japan. For a family with two young kids who would get child discounts elsewhere, run the math per person.

FAQ
Can I use the pass to get to Kansai Airport? No. Nankai is covered only within the Osaka city zone, not out to the airport. Buy a Nankai ticket (¥970) or use an IC card.
Can I visit the same attraction twice? No. One entry per attraction per pass.
Is Osaka Castle really free, including the main tower? Yes, the main tower (castle museum) is included. Nishinomaru Garden is also included. Special exhibitions may cost extra.
Does the pass include Kaiyukan Aquarium? No. It is one of the most common assumptions and it is wrong. Buy a separate ticket (around ¥2,700–¥3,000 depending on date).
Can I split a 2-day pass between two people? No. It is tied to one QR code and one person.
Does the pass work on Osaka City buses to USJ? The USJ shuttle buses are excluded. Take the JR Yumesaki Line (not covered) or Metro to Nishikujo then JR.
